Signal Timing
Traffic signals in the City operate using a combined system of vehicle/bicycle/pedestrian detection and timing. These timings are programmed to minimize user delays at the intersection based on traffic demand. At times, when an emergency vehicle such as a fire engine or police vehicle is present, you may notice an irregular pattern to the signal timing. This is normal and is designed to prioritize green lights for these vehicles. The traffic signal will return to normal operation shortly after.
Coordinated Traffic Signal Timing Plans
During the morning, mid-day, and evening rush hours, traffic signals along Dublin Boulevard and select parts of Hacienda Drive and Tassajara Road operate under a special timing plan which prioritizes through traffic to allow for efficient traffic flow along the corridors. In addition to shorter travel times, emissions produced by vehicles waiting at traffic signals are reduced. As a result, motorists may experience slightly increased delays approaching from side streets or turning left off of these streets.
