Slurry Seal 2023
Overview
The City of Dublin has awarded a contract for the 2023 Annual Slurry Seal. The project is part of Dublin’s Capital Improvement Program that includes Annual Street Resurfacing projects. Funding for the project is provided by several sources including Alameda County Measure B/BB, State Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) The Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and State gas tax, and will include sealing of existing cracks, pavement repairs, new slurry seal, and pavement markings. The project will rehabilitate approximately 37 street segments and over 20,000 square feet of asphalt repairs, with over one million square feet of slurry seal installed. Additional work includes traffic striping and markings. During several phases of work for this project, parking and lane closure restrictions will be in place.
Status Update (September 2023)
The project is currently in the early construction phase. Over the next few weeks, workers will be removing existing traffic striping, crack sealing, and performing asphalt repairs. The majority of the slurry seal application will be performed in the middle of October. The final work of new traffic striping and markings will be completed at the end of October.
How will this work affect you as a resident or business?
On the day your street is noticed to be slurry sealed it will be closed to traffic and you will not be allowed to drive, walk, or ride a bike on the asphalt street until the slurry seal has properly cured and the road is reopened. If you need to use your vehicle on the day your road is closed, please park it on an adjacent street not being sealed that day. Please look for the “No Parking” restrictions. It is very important that you do not drive or walk on freshly installed slurry. Slurry seal will stick to the vehicle and will track onto sidewalks, driveways, carpet and flooring and will damage those finishes.
Parking
While the work is in progress, the City’s contractor may need to prohibit parking on the street. The contractor will post “No Parking” signs a minimum of 72 hours (3 days) in advance of the scheduled work on your street. Please be aware that, due to the possibility of unforeseen circumstances, such as equipment breakdowns, the posted dates and times could change. You may continue to park on the street until the date and time shown on the signs. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to the temporary ‘No Parking’ restrictions. If you are planning to be out of town during the time that the work is to take place, please arrange to park your vehicle(s) off of the street to avoid having your vehicle(s) towed. Emergency vehicles will have access to the streets at all times.
Driving on the Street
During several of the construction activities for this project, street access maybe intermittently restricted. Streets will be opened to traffic and access to driveways will be available at the end of each day.
Street Closure
During the slurry seal process, your street or a part of your street will be closed to vehicular traffic for a period of 4-6 hours to allow the material to be installed and dry.
We apologize in advance for any disruption caused by this work. Thank you for your cooperation as the City of Dublin invests in maintaining your streets.
