[ARCHIVED] Camp Parks Celebrates 75th Anniversary in Dublin

Join the City of Dublin in celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Camp Parks Reserve Forces Training Area at an Open House on Sunday, November 26, 1:00-5:00 p.m., at Dublin Camp Parks Military History Center.

Opened during World War Two as a training facility for U.S. Navy Construction Battalions, Camp Parks has been in continuous use by various branches of the military ever since.  The base helped transform Dublin from a rural crossroads community into the thriving city that it is today.

The anniversary celebration will include a talk on the history of Camp Parks by local historian Steve Minniear; a historical World War II character presentation by Colonel Fred Rutledge, director of the California State Military Museum; and a 2:30 p.m. screening of the classic war movie, “The Fighting Seabees,” starring John Wayne, Susan Hayward and Dennis O’Keefe.

The Camp Parks Military History Center is located just before the Main Gate check-in point, off Dougherty Road.  Parking is very limited. Consider carpooling or parking nearby and walking via Iron Horse Trail.
