On Wednesday, November 13, Dublin Police will intensify enforcement efforts on all electric bicycles and scooters across all Dublin school sites, due to a concerning rise in collisions involving these vehicles. Below is a list of seven important motorized scooter/bicycle rules:
- Minors must wear helmets. (California Vehicle Code - CVC - 21235)
- Maximum speed is 15 mph. (CVC 22411)
- E-scooters and e-bikes must be ridden in bike lanes whenever one is available. (CVC 21229)
- No passengers allowed; no riding on sidewalks; and MUST have a valid license. (CVC 21235)
- Dismount and walk for left-hand turns. (CVC 21228)
- It is a violation to ride an e-scooter or e-bike in a crosswalk. (CVC 275)
- E-scooters must follow the same traffic rules as a motor vehicle, including no riding while under the influence. (CVC 21221).
