Iron Horse Trail Landscape Master Plan

Iron Horse Nature Park Open Space - North of Amador Valley Boulevard

Phase 1 of the Iron Horse Nature Park and Open Space will construct the first 1700 feet of new park and add amenities beginning at the intersection of Amador Valley Boulevard and continuing northwesterly along a former railroad embankment and ending with a new connection into Stagecoach Park. This linear park will include a new path, benches, seat wall, bike rack, bike repair station, waste receptacle, shade structure, educational interpretive signage in three distinct amenity areas highlighting the existing oak trees, wetland areas, and the history of the former railroad line through the site.

Construction entails grading and installation of a 12-foot-wide asphalt concrete (AC) paved path with two-foot-wide aggregate base (AB) shoulders on either side, storm drainage pipes and retaining walls, an arch culvert bridge, fencing, native landscaping, wetland mitigation plantings, and installation of amenities. Construction continues along the path from Amador Valley Boulevard, as well as from Stagecoach Park, and is scheduled to be completed by fall 2025. Stagecoach Park upgrades are now complete and open for public use. Mitigation plantings, as required by the environmental permitting agencies, will be installed after the construction is complete. Green Stormwater Infrastructure – South of Amador Valley Boulevard

A portion of the Iron Horse Nature Park and Open Space, south of Amador Valley Boulevard, will have a new bioretention basin, landscaping, storm drainage improvements, seating, interpretive signage, fencing, improvements to sidewalk, curb ramps, and trail crossing improvements.  Construction also entails grading for the new bioretention basin and installation of a paved trail, installation of new storm drainage pipes, plantings and irrigation infrastructure, and installation of amenities.  Construction is complete and landscape maintenance will continue into spring of 2026.
